BOGE provides a quiet & compact solution

The Water Works Treatment Plant at Portlaoise County Council is enjoying a quiet, space saving and energy saving compressed air system as a result of replacing an ageing compressed air system with two BOGE C Series screw compressors and a BOGE trinity controller.

Compressed air is used to operate valves at the Portlaoise County Council Water Works Treatment Plant. Problems with the existing ageing compressed air system cause Brendan Garry the Technician at the Water Works Treatment Plant to contact their local service provider CSL Limited.

On reviewing the compressed air requirements of the plant Kieran Brennan, the Service Manager at CSL recommended replacing the ageing system with two BOGE C Series screw compressors and a BOGE trinity controller.

Through the exclusive BOGE distributor in Ireland - C&L Industrial, CSL had recently come across some BOGE compressors in action in a similar application and recognised the benefits of this package for this type of application.

Kieran Brennan said "The BOGE C series suits this application perfectly being compact and quiet in operation. Having seen this package in another water treatment plant it seemed the ideal solution for the Portlaoise plant. We also recommended installing a BOGE trinity, multiple compressor controller to automate the system and ensure it operated energy efficiently at all times - irrespective of load / off load times."

A BOGE CLD7RM and a BOGE CL7 screw compressor were subsequently installed along with a BOGE trinity controller.

The compact design of the C series ensures a small footprint providing the ideal space saving solution where space is limited. Equally important all service components are easily accessible from one point to allow future maintenance work to be carried out in a hassle-free manner.

The c series is also noted for its very low sound pressure levels. High performance damping and lamellar graphite casting ensure highly effective silencing producing sound levels as low as 57 dB(A), making it ideal at point of use.

The BOGE trinity is a modern transducer operated change over switch designed to control up to three compressors. The system automatically sets itself to optimise pressure cascading - only the maximum pressure (Pmax) and the minimum pressure (Pmin) need to be entered into the controller.

For the Portlaoise County Council Water Works Treatment Plant it would ensure reduced operating costs as each compressor used is optimised in the most energy efficient way (kW/m3/min).

Brendan Garry concludes; "The old compressed air system had previously been extremely noisy and bothersome. The new compressors were installed a couple of months ago now and have been working perfectly and operating at a very acceptable noise level. These compressors have additionally fitted compactly into the space available."
